Uttarakhand news: Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat to resign today | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is likely to resign at a press conference on Tuesday. As per sources, he is scheduled to address a press conference today where he will officially announce his exit, said sources.
Following the press conference at his residence, Rawat will meet the governor at 4 pm to handover his resignation, said sources.
Rawat met BJP President JP Nadda hours after a crucial meeting of Union home minister Amit Shah with the party chief at New Delhi on Monday.
There have been reports of serious discontent from a section of the state BJP MLAs and MPs, who are bitterly opposed to the chief minister’s style of functioning.

The central BJP leadership had recently sent two observers, party vice-president Raman Singh and general secretary Dushayant Kumar Gautam, to Uttarakhand to get feedback amid reports of discontent against the chief minister.
Observer Raman Singh met several MLAs in Dehradun on Saturday to take feedback on a possible leadership change. The report was submitted to party president JP Nadda who had then summoned Rawat to Delhi.
Rawat was named the chief ministerial candidate by the BJP after it stormed to power in 2017, winning 57 of 70 seats in the state assembly.

In Uttarakhand, no chief minister, barring ND Tiwari, has completed a full term. Both BJP and Congress have changed CMs before elections, but the change never helped them in the ensuing polls.
Who could be next Uttarakhand CM
State tourism minister Satpal Maharaj, Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, former state BJP president and Lok Sabha member Ajay Bhatt, former CM and Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, minister of state for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat, Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand Anil Baluni and RSS state general secretary Suresh Bhatt are said to be among the contenders for the key post.
Sources said the party may also bring in a deputy chief minister, who will be from the Kumaon region, adding that Pushkar Singh Dhami could be a likely candidate for the post.
