DMK vision document: Kamal Haasan, BJP say their ideas, schemes lifted, re-packaged

In a grand event in Trichy, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M K Stalin unveiled the opposition party’s vision document that focussed on the overall development of Tamil Nadu, over the next decade. However, the announcements were quick to draw fire from the Actor Kamal Haasan, who accused the DMK of having lifted the points from a similar plan he unveiled in recent times. BJP members and supporters too had pointed out that the announcements made by Stalin were a re-packaged version of the Prime Minister’s pet projects.
DMK’s event in Trichy on Sunday evening which had lakhs of the Dravidian party’s supporters in attendance, was where Stalin released a vision document that covered seven major sectors: Economy, Agriculture, Water Resources, Education and Health, smart cities, and high-class rural infrastructure.
Double-digit growth for the state’s economy, with a target of Rs 35 lakh crore and generation of 10 lakh jobs every year, increasing per capita income to over Rs 4 lakh per year were some of the prominent points. The list also featured universal income support of Rs 1,000 to the female heads of households.
In addition to this, there were points mentioning concrete homes for those in rural areas, piped water supply, providing homes for urban poor (slum-dwellers), schemes to boost agricultural output, etc.
Reacting to the DMK’s vision document, Makkal Needhi Maiam president and actor Kamal Haasan said that the DMK had ripped off important points announced by the fledgling party. “I would be glad if the Federation(DMK), which took the significant points from our agenda, would also follow our honesty and clean-approach”.
BJP Spokesperson SG Suryah had stated on Twitter that the & promises made by Stalin were repackaged schemes announced by Prime Minister Modi. “Like Jai Shakti(water concoction to all), smart cities, Ayushman Bharat (health insurance), Awas Yojna (housing for all) &, etc.”
