Car is a ‘public place’, mask mandatory even if driving alone: Delhi High Court

Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in India, the Delhi High Court has given an important verdict and said that it would be mandatory to wear a mask even when travelling alone in a car. The Delhi High Court has described the car as a public place and said that every person must wear a mask.
This comes as the coronavirus pandemic has reached alarming levels once again. A total of 5,100 new cases were reported on Tuesday, while 17 people died. This is the highest figure in Delhi after November 2020. Earlier, on November 27, 2020, 5,482 cases were reported in Delhi. The total number of infections in Delhi so far has increased to 6.85 lakh. Now, the number of active cases has climbed to 17,332 in Delhi.
The Delhi government has also imposed a night curfew in Delhi till April 30. Under this, only those giving emergency services or going to take the vaccine from ten o’clock in the morning to five in the morning will be allowed to leave the house. But for this, it will be necessary to take an e-pass.
Since the vaccination centres in Delhi will operate for 24 hours at all government-run hospitals in the national capital from Tuesday onwards,  people travelling during curfew hours for COVID-19 vaccination will require s soft or hard copy of an e-pass which can be obtained from the website www.Delhi.Gov.In.
People travelling for essential services and essential workers are exempted but carrying an e-pass for travelling between 10 pm – 5 am is mandatory.
Print or electronic media journalists need to get an e-pass for working during night curfew.
According to the Union Health Ministry, 1 lakh 15 thousand 736 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, while 630 people lost their lives during this period. After this, the number of infected in India has gone to 1.28 crore while 1.66 lakh people have lost their lives.
