The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is slated for an April 07 launch. But that hasn’t lulled the French carmaker to taking a break, as Citroen is now busy testing its first made-for-India sub-4 metre SUV, which will debut later this year. The test mule you see in these images gives away specific details.
The interior is pretty minimalistic, with a free-floating touchscreen infotainment system catching the eye. We also see the funky air-con vents at the centre and the three-spoke steering wheel that seems to be lifted off the C5 Aircross. The gear lever’s design seems inspired by that of an aircraft.
The exterior also appears to be inspired by the C5 Aircross, evident from the split-LED headlamps and the sleek Citroen grille. The whole styling is based on the carmaker’s ‘C-Cubed’ plan, meaning Cool, Comfort, and Clever. Therefore, we expect the upcoming model to retain Citroen’s trendy design language and comfortable ride quality.
The SUV should come with all the modern-day features as well, including connected car tech, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless phone charger, climate control, a digital driver’s display, and cruise control. Safety should be taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and electronic stability control.
It’s still too early to talk about technical specifications, but the sub-4 metre SUV could be underpinned by CMP — Peugeot-Citroen’s smallest modular platform for compact models. While this platform supports both 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, the French carmaker has only gone with the former in the upcoming model. Also, while this test mule confirms a 5-speed manual, there should be an optional automatic as well.
